The following section will give you a detailed
information on schools and its
ESL program avialable in Ontario, Canada. Compare these schools
based on your own need.
For
example: if you are planning to do your Master's Degree after getting
your English Test Score then you better to go ESL classes at U of T or
York University.
If you are planning to do your BS or BA
degree then choose a college ESL. Colleges usually cost less than
Universities. Since you planning to study four years, the cost can add
up and you may have to pay twice more to University class.
1.University
of Toronto - English as a Second Language program.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
University
of Toronto ESL program accepts students year around. To join the
University of Toronto English Language Program (U of T ELP), you must
be at least 18 years old and have some basic understanding of English.
The courses are not suitable for complete beginners in English. Some
courses require you to be at an intermediate level of English facility
or to have professional experience. Um of T ELP reserves the right to
deny entrance to student snot fulfilling these requirements.
FEES
All courses and service fees are cover the cost of
tuition and the required health
insurance.
Fees includes assigned
textbooks, course materials,workshops, conversation club, and several
events and activities.
Health Fee includes:
- a health plan with comprehensive medical
coverage
- full use of the University of Toronto Student
Health Services and the University’s Medical Clinic.
Tuition
and health fees must be paid in full at time of registration.
Bursaries,
scholarships and other forms of financial aid are not available.
All U of T ELP students(international students,
immigrants and Canadian citizens) are required to pay the same tuition.
Tuition and fees may be paid in the following ways:
- by credit card (Visa, Mastercard and
AmericanExpress)
- by official bank cheque/money order, in
Canadian funds, payable to the University of Toronto
- by traveller’s cheque, in Canadian funds,
payable to the University of Toronto
Note: Cash, personal cheques, and wire transfers
will not accepted.
Withdrawal Policy
Requests to withdraw from a course must be made in
writing.
Schedule for Refunds
12-week Courses
- 21 calendar days before the course starts 100%
of tuition
- 5-20 calendar days before the course starts 95%
of tuition
- 7 calendar days after the course starts 90% of
tuition
- 8 or more calendar days after the course starts
No Refund
3-week, 6-week and 7-week Courses
- 21 calendar days before the course starts 100%
of tuition
- 5-20 calendar days before the course starts 95%
of tuition
- 3 calendar days after the course starts 90% of
tuition
- 4 or more calendar days after the course starts
No Refund
Note:
Refund payments are made to the original payors only. Refunds are not
transferable. Because the University of Toronto does not keep your
credit card information, refunds can only be made by a cheque issued by
the University’s finance department and sent by mail. Refunds normally
take four to six weeks to process.
Visa or Study Permit Refusal
If
you must cancel your registration because Canadian Immigration has
denied your Study Permit (Student Authorization), your full tuition,
health fees and registration fee will be refunded if:
- the Registration Office is notified in writing
prior to the first day of classes that you will not be attending and
- the Registration Office receives the original
letter issued by the
Canadian Embassy/High Commission confirming that the study permit was
denied.
The U of T ELP Registration Office must receive
the documents prior to the course start date.
VISAS AND STUDY PERMITS
It
is your responsibility to register for U of T ELP courses in sufficient
time to apply for and receive your Canadian visa or study permit. If
you want to study for less than six months, you may need a Temporary
Resident Visa.
If you want to study for longer than six months,
you must obtain a Study Permit. Make sure you have
enough time to get the proper documents required.
If
you plan to visit the United States during your stay in Canada, check
with the US embassy or consulate in your country. You must get your US
visa before you come to Canada.
You must assume complete responsibility for your
personal financial needs.
If your application is refused, you may be able to
obtain refund of fees paid to the U of T ELP, subject to certain
conditions.

2.York
University -English as a Second Language program
York is now Canada's third largest university has
over 175,000 alumni.
More
than 5,000 courses offered through York's 11 faculties: Arts; Atkinson
Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies; Education; Environmental
Studies; Fine Arts; Glendon; Graduate Studies; Health; Osgoode Hall Law
School; Schulich School of Business; and Science & Engineering.
Students
and professors from more than 130 countries around the world attend
York University.YUELI provides non-credit English as a Second Language
courses designed primarily to improve English language skills for
university entrance and/or professional advancement.
The
Institutes's goal is to teach students the kinds of language, critical
thinking and study skills required to be a successful undergraduate or
graduate student in a university where English is the language of
instruction.
The Academic Program is our
Institute’s university preparation program. It is a full-time, 6 level
program for non-native speakers of English.
Conditional
admission is available for most undergraduate programs at York
University through the YUELI Academic English Program, provided
students meet the academic requirements to enter York University.

Ryerson University-International Applicants
For Ryerson University I didn't see any ESL
program. However, they do accept international students for their
academic programs.

CENTENNIAL COLLEGE-ESL
Centennial
College is Ontario’s first community college, established in 1966,
primarily serving the eastern portion of the Greater Toronto Area
through four campuses and seven satellite locations.
Almost 100 ethno cultural groups are represented
and 80 languages are spoken on campus.
Centennial
offering more than 95 diploma and certificate programs on a full-time
and Continuing Education basis in business, communication arts,
community and consumer services, engineering technology, health and
transportation.
These career-oriented programs emphasize
practical experience with laboratory learning, industry and agency
placements, as well as co-op education. Students also prepare for
college and university through the General Arts and Science program,
and English language training.
Centennial supports enrollments of 12,000
full-time students and 28,000 in Continuing Education.
5.GEORGE
BROWN COLLEGE-ESL
George Brown College was established in 1967 by
the Government of Ontario to serve the population of the City of
Toronto.
The
College is named after George Brown (1818-1880), one of Canada's
"Fathers of Confederation", a Liberal politician and founder of The
Globe newspaper in Toronto (now The Globe and Mail).
The
College has three main campuses in downtown Toronto at Casa Loma, St.
James and Ryerson University, along with 10 training facilities, from
which it offers 150 full-time programs, and 1,200 continuing education
courses.
Students can pursue their career goals choosing
from diplomas, degrees and certificates.

COLLEGE-ESL
Humber's

Seneca College is Canada's
largest post-secondary institution with 100,000 students on eight major
