Women in Mongolia

and Domestic Violence

Women in Mongolia are in early ages taught to be responsible. At age 8 become baby sitter, house cleaner, cook, grocery shopper of our household. It is expected, especially if you are the oldest in your household.

As you get older, you are also expected to act as the mediator in domestic violence of your  parents, in case they beat each other out.

Good News! According to Family Law of Mongolia, women in Mongolia are equal to man. There are many educated and powerful women in Mongolia. However, many women in Mongolia still face different type of violence-Domestic Violence=silent one!

Violence against women is so wide and uncontrolled. The most unregulated violence is domestic violence, rape and discrimination. Although there is new law came out in 2005 in reference to Family Violence, the activities related to violence still continues.

Since majority of Law Makers are male and unable to enforce issues related to women, many Mongolian women prefer to migrate to different counties where protection against domestic violence, and family related violence are tougher.
