Traditionally Mongolia economy is mainly based on agriculture and breeding livestock and processing meat leather and cashmere. Mongolia is a resource-rich country, rich in mineral deposits: fluorspar, iron, copper, coal, molybdenum, tin, tungsten, and gold account for a large part of industrial production. About 80 type of minerals were discovered in Mongolia.

Since Democracy of 1990, Mongolia Government has gradually privatized Mongolia Mining industries. In 2006, the mining sector accounted for 30% of the country's GDP; the value of the industry's output accounted for 72% of the total value of industrial output. Mining and oil exploration accounted 61% of total foreign direct investment in 2005. China was the leading investor in Mongolia followed by Canada, The Republic of Korea, Japan and United States.

Mongolia export almost all of its output of concentrated copper, molybdenum concentrate and zinc to China, gold exported to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and China. In 2006, Mongolia total trade increased by 34.2% to $3.02 billion. Because of high global metal market price, the value of export increased by 43.6% to $1.53 billion.

The Mongolian Meat Processing industry consists factories with its own slaughter houses. These small businesses engaged in the production of freshly cut meat to production of sausages and canned meats.

Mongolia Investment Laws provides a number of tax incentives to foreign investors.  For instance: companies engaged in Power, Transportation infrastructure, or telecommunications networks fields will receive ten years of complete income tax exemption and a 50% tax exemption in the following five years. In addition, the Government of Mongolia provides stability agreements. Investments of at least US$ 2 million will benefit from a stable taxation environment of 10 years. The duration of such Agreement may be extended to 15 years for amounts above US$ 10 million.
